Wood

Each of the handmade products is a unique and a one of a kind. You never get two handmade items that are the same, which makes each item a special object. Crafty hands are behind each object fabrication process, from the design sketches until the wrapping and shipping.

You are not just buying an item; you are buying a piece of the artist. You are supporting the love, sweat, tears, future, family, confidence, mind, body and soul of that person. It creates an amazing relationship between two persons, the artist and the seller. You are not just a customer; you are a supporter, a fan, a collector of art.

Buying handmade shows our children that not everything in this world needs to be mass-produced. It teaches them to love and appreciate the uniqueness and the imperfection. It also inspires them to do their own creations as well.

The Craft of Woodworking has deep roots in Egypt. Many archaeological wooden objects have been preserved for thousands of years in good condition at many different ancient Egyptian tombs and diverse areas along the Nile Valley. This reveals that the Egyptians have known to work and carve wood to create all sorts of very beautiful objects since early Pharaonic Dynastic period and until now.

The development of each historical period witnessed improvements in wood manufacturing simultaneously in carving techniques as well as in the materials and tools used in carpentry.

Several useful woods were native to Egypt. Among the Coptic (ancient Egyptian) popular types of wood was the olive tree. It has been used in making seals for stamping the sacred bread of the ecclesial rituals. Olive trees can be found in three areas in Egypt: North Sinai, the Alexandria-Cairo Road and Siwa.

In addition, in Upper Egypt, at one of the poorest areas, the village of “Hijaza” is considered one of the largest and recognized centers for wooden handcrafts and furniture products in Egypt. The products designed in “Hijaza” are characterized by being a mixture of the Egyptian Coptic, Arabic and Islamic traditions formulated in a unique wonderful designs. This art spreads with the successive generations of Hijaza’s artisans due to the availability of the finest types of local wood such as Asersus (Sarsou), Nabq, Acacia, Tamarix and Orange wood.
