Product Details:
Pottery industry is considered one of the special industries reflecting the civilization and development of nations. It has begun in Egypt since prehistoric ages in Delta and Nile valley. It has flourished in “Fatimid” era and was distinguished by the beautiful colors, magnificent printings and decorations in addition to the brilliant drawings of plants, birds and animals. Pottery industry now is concentrated in the areas of “Fustat” in old Cairo, Fayoum, New Valley and Qena.
Tunis village (Fayoum, Egypt) is located on the border of Qarun Lake. There, a Swiss potter started a pottery school for poor children in 1970. Later, several local potters have started their own workshops and made their pottery products. Handmade pottery industry has become their main source of income. They make unique decorated pottery products with artistic motifs depicting things they see in their daily life at Fayoum nature.
Men shape the wet clay into different shapes. The items are then placed into a very hot kiln to harden, then eventually to be decorated by women, who spend approximately six hours on decorating each piece.
Our Promise:
Each of the handmade products is a unique and a one of a kind. You never get two handmade items that are the same, which makes each item a special object. Crafty hands are behind each object fabrication process, from the design sketches until the wrapping and shipping.
You are not just buying an item; you are buying a piece of the artist. You are supporting the love, sweat, tears, future, family, confidence, mind, body and soul of that person. It creates an amazing relationship between two persons, the artist and the buyer. You are not just a customer; you are a supporter, a fan, a collector of art.
Buying handmade shows our children that not everything in this world needs to be mass-produced. It teaches them to love and appreciate the uniqueness and the imperfection. It also inspires them to do their own creations as well.
